This project was born in the broader context of the complex Hospice in Bentivoglio created by Isabella Seragnoli and designed in the ’90s by the architect Enzo Zacchiroli.
Near Hospice, passing an irrigation canal, there was a farm house and a barn with stables in ruins. These two buildings were chosen for a recovery that would allow the construction of the new Academy of Sciences of Palliative Medicine established here in 2006. The house has been restored with the aim to establish here the offices, and to the second floor, a guest house. It ‘also prepared for laboratory use, on the ground floor. The former barn, with particular spaces and generous, was designed for classrooms and administration. It ‘a place to hold classes and be immersed in a natural, comfortable. A place to get a break at the themes of life and death always present in the near Hospice.
The restoration work has allowed us to save and bring new life to a whole series of elements of the previous agricultural use such as cuts and slits in the wall, railings and hooks and especially the columns and vaults of the barn who, born for the valuable animal shelter, are today a place of pleasant contact with the flavor of recent history. The building was reinforced all the foundations and a few columns, in addition to the desalination process, have been physically straightened. Outside walls have been preserved some emerging from the ground level and the well present in front of the house. The main intervention in the barn, the introduction of a scale not previously present, was deliberately marked with a volume bow-window visible from the outside and see which tracks campaign. The protective porch / sun screen located to the south of the large openings of the barn was built with logs and grassy blanks with deciduous species such as the wisteria sinensis.
Beyond the canal, which was built the bridge driveway, it was designed a new building for the shelter of the ambulance and storage brick. The language used is an attempt to integrate this body respectfully in the complex designed by Zacchiroli.
In subsequent years, there are three wooden houses as guest students of color red Ferrari designed by eng. Antonio Iascone to complete the equipment of the complex.

Questo progetto nasce nel più ampio contesto del complesso dell’Hospice di Bentivoglio creato da Isabella Seragnoli e progettato negli anni ’90 dall’arch. Enzo Zacchiroli.
In prossimità dell’Hospice, oltrepassando un canale irriguo, vi era una casa agricola ed un fienile con stalla in rovina. Questi due edifici sono stati scelti per un recupero che consentisse la realizzazione della nuova Accademia delle Scienze di Medicina Palliativa istituita qui nel 2006. La casa è stata restaurata con lo scopo di insediarvi gli uffici e, a secondo piano, una foresteria. E’ anche predisposta per un uso laboratoriale, a piano terra. L’ex-fienile, con spazi particolari e più generosi, è stato pensato per le aule didattiche e l’amministrazione. E’ un luogo dove tenere corsi ed essere immersi in un ambiente naturale, confortevole. Un posto dove trovare una pausa ai temi della vita e della morte sempre presenti nel vicino Hospice.
Il restauro operato ha consentito di salvare e portare a nuova vita tutta una serie di elementi del precedente uso agricolo come tagli e feritoie in parete, inferriate e ganci e soprattutto le colonne e le volte del fienile che, nate per il prezioso ricovero degli animali, sono oggi un luogo di piacevole contatto col sapore della storia recente. L’edificio è stato tutto rinforzato nelle fondazioni ed alcune colonne, oltre al processo di desalinizzazione, sono state fisicamente raddrizzate. All’esterno sono stati conservati alcuni muretti emergenti dal piano di campagna e il pozzo presente davanti alla casa. L’intervento principale nel fienile, l’introduzione di una scala prima non presente, è stato volutamente segnalato con un volume bow-window visibile all’esterno e da cui vedere brani di campagna. Il portico protettivo/schermo solare posto a sud delle ampie aperture del fienile è stato realizzato con tronchi sbozzati ed inerbito con essenze a foglia caduca quali il Glicine.
Al di là del canale, sul quale è stato realizzato il ponticello carrabile, è stato progettato un nuovo edificio per il ricovero dell’ambulanza e magazzinaggio, in mattoni. Il linguaggio utilizzato rappresenta un tentativo di integrare rispettosamente questo corpo nel complesso progettato da Zacchiroli.
Negli anni successivi sono state realizzate tre case in legno come foresteria studenti di color rosso Ferrari dall’ing. Antonio Iascone a completamento della dotazione del complesso.
